How to go about getting a keycode for a VW

    Have a weird one .....

Have a late 03 passat and have had to have the remote fob reprogramed twice in the last year by the main dealer

The central locking fob stops working every few weeks - leave it for a week and then it normally ok. When the fob stops working - the radio doesnt switch off when the key is removed and the buzzer to let ya know there is a light left on also doesnt work !!!

It now seems to have gone completely again and im looking at having to take it in for a third time !!

Anyway I have the loan of a diagnostic tool which I can use to reprogram the fob but it is asking me for the key pin code... VW main dealer is no help as they informed me they do not have the codes as it is all automatically downloaded from the VW server.

Anyone ever experience this before ??

    Thanks ...... C'B

sounds like your comfort control could be faulty, common problem with these as they are located under the carpet on passenger side and suffer from water ingress which leaks in through your pollen filter housing under the bonnet so could be worth a look.
i could supply you with your SKC but on the down side you would need for you to bring the car to me in longford.

Hi Paul... Thanks for the reply,

by any chance do you know are these comfort boxes easy to replace / repair ?? and would they be the same in all engine types (mine in a 2ltr petrol so is fairly uncommon!! Not to many to be found in scrap yards) I have a second key coming from another passat (same part no as the original key) which I will need the remote and transponder coded. Do you do this also? might be worth a run down to you at some stage and try and get it all sorted together.

    Cheers

The diagnostic tools should be able to tell you the CCS part number installed in your car. The part number is not linked to engine type at all, it's more to do with what equipment is installed in your car e.g. central locking, electric windows, etc.

Scrap yard should be able to get the part by part number for you.

FWIW, there are two separate key matching processes to be done too: one for the immobiliser and the other for the remote locking system. Matching the remote locking part is easy enough and doesn't require any additional codes. Matching the immobiliser is where you need a PIN.

So what you could do with your new key is pop the RFID 'pill' out of the old key and swap it into the new one, then you only have to pair the remote locking part of it to the car. The immobiliser is controlled by a different ECU in the car so it will not be affected by the CCS.

if you are getting a spare key then yes i could program the transponder for you but you would still need to get the mechanical key cut elsewhere.
as chimaera mentions you will only require a pin to code a replacement key but not to program your remote.

Thanks a mill guys, least I have a better understanding of it now !! Ill scout around and see if I can get a second hand ccs box anywhere after I hook it up and get the right parts number for it ;) One more question though ... is it a simple enough job just involving removing connections / connectors etc or will I need to get it done by someone with more patience than I :o

    Cheers again ..........

the toughest job is lifting the carpet, once there you will see a black plastic box and your ccm is inside more than likely along with a few puddles of water,it just unplugs but if it is wet and carpet is too you'd need to repair the original problem of the water coming in from the bulkhead or before too long you could be looking for another ccm.
    cheers.
