Hi, I would appreciate a rough idea of how much I would expect to pay for re-plumbing an 1980's house? Just a rough idea would be helpful as I am planning to purchase. I want to install an energy efficient boiler with the re-plumb

anyone giving a quote over the internet without seeing the job is going to be very very rough but you still need to give more information.

    how big is the house?
do you want both the heating and plumbing pipes renewed?
do you want the radiators renewed?
    combi boiler or standard?
    if standard, new hot tank?
pressurised hw system or gravity fed?
open vented ch system or closed?
how many bathrooms / showers / toilets / sinks / basins etc.

With the price of copper it is these days, I would recommend especially that your going to do it from scratch, use copper through out house. Don't scrimp on insulation either...

In fairness using copper for the entire replumb is unecessary, for me i use copper in hot press , around the boiler in any visable areas , and anywhere in the bathroom it might be seen , also i always connect to rad valves in copper.

Using it everywhere else will just hugely push up the materials and labour cost, and its just plain unecessary.
Qualpex thats correctly installed is perfectly good.

And yes good quality insulation is key in areas such as attic and around cylinder etc. I like the black armaflex which is available in different thicknesses

I had 10-12k in my head when reading this too. Get at least 3 quotes and stick to your overlay of what you want. That means the plumbers are playing to your plan and not coming up with there own and belive me each of them would be differant and better that each others and in the end will just confuse you.

There is nothing worse than trying to quote for a job and the customer has no notion of what they want, and every other plumber that has priced has a differant plan to yours.

One mans idea of the best system is differant to anothers.
