Hydraulic Fracturing for natural gas in Ireland - Very worrying...

Listening to radio 1 today I heard about an American companies intention to come into Ireland to extract natural gas (shale gas) from the ground using a method called Hydraulic fracturing. I'm not normally involved in environmental issues but it really worries and disgusts me that our government should allow this. If this is allowed the aftermath may be an irreversible disaster for us and our environment and a disaster for our agricultural and food industries.

In Ireland there is no regulation in existence that covers this extraction method and it has been banned in France!

Remember the iconic documentary on the Corrib gas project (Shells exploiting of natural gas off the northwest coast of Ireland)? Well, most people didn’t know about this while Shell was working away destroying the livelihood of local fisherman’s industries.

I think we have become too quiet a nation and we need to make our government stop this kind of buyout from huge multinational companies. I'm pissed off at how this sort of thing could happen and at our government. UGH....
