    Fraid not sam.

If you want to replace with something that does both you need a Combo receiver - it does Saorview off aerial and satellite off well satellite - one remote and channel list. Ferguson Ariva 120 HD is less than €100. I am presuming you are in Ireland.

Have a look in the terrestrial forum.

thanks STB for your reply,is rte digital/saorview operating of a differant satellite? or has this technology [technomate tm-5200]moved on?, i am based in westmeath.

Saorview (RTE1, RTE2 HD, TV3, 3e, Tg4, RTE News Now, RTE+1, RTE Kids) operates terrestrialy (via DVB-T in MPEG4 received through a UHF aerial). You will receive this off an aerial no problem in Westmeath.

The box I suggested has both DVB-T (aerial) and DVB-S2 (satellite) inputs on it and it does both in one channel menu.

Combo boxes are the simplest and only method of delivery of both at the moment.

The British channel you are watching on your Technomate at the moment are on Astra 28.2. Simplistically, Astra 28.2 pattern covers the UK and Ireland and some parts of Europe. RTE is encrypted on 28.2 as there are too many rights issues with the programmes they broadcast. Hence it is encrypted and only available via Sky subscription.

RTE are also testing in the clear and free on satellite 9E. But this service is not operational as yet. Also you will need a different satellite dish with a different Ka LNB (new spot beam technology) and you would also need a switch to switch between both dishes.

Also your Technomate box does not do MPEG4 Video and is not DVB-S2 which it would have to be to decode the 9E satellite anyhow. You do realise that you are missing out on the UK HD channels being broadcast free to air at the moment on 28.2 with the box you are currently using (BBC HD, BBC One HD, Ch4 HD, ITV HD). It might be time for an upgrade.

I was keeping it simple and inexpensive suggesting the Ferguson Ariva 120 Combo. It is the cheapest box that does both UK sat and Irish Saorview in one box. Big thread over in Terrestrial. Satworld are selling them as is Tony from Satellite.ie (posts here as Tony). If you PM him I am sure he will PM you the discount code for boardsies, as he has done for others.

If you like Technomates there are also Technomate HD Combo boxes that also do the same, but they are double the price.

Only if you want one less remote.
A real Freesat HD box is far superior for Freesat and unless a Combo box is certified or at least has MHEG5 you are locking out a major part of Saorview.

Two boxes is the only really simple (no rescans on Satellite) and fully compatible solution right now.

Does it have a terrestrial tuner built into it?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

The 'antenna in' on a Technomate 5402 serves the same function as on a Sky box, allowing the signal from the aerial to be combined with the modulated output from the receiver; there's no terrestrial tuner.

The box has no terrestrial tuner, so can't decode the Saorview signal.

Who told you it was a combo?

Doing a search on that box and any sites that sell it make no mention of any terrestrial capabilities.

I have a Technomate 6900 which does have a terrestrial tuner and the options I get are in the attachment

The seller you bought the box from also makes no mention of terrestrial

The 5402 has a UHF modulator, which allows its output to be distributed to other tvs on coaxial cable & tuned into their analogue tuners.

The antenna connection allows you to also include the off-air signal on the same cable without having to use an external combiner. Sky boxes have the same feature.

If it has to be a technomate, the you might pick up a HD6900 second hand. They have both tuners.

The Ferguson Ariva 120 box does that and is less than €100 brand new.

You will need 2 lnbs on your dish for 13 and 28.2, a bracket to hold them and a Diseq switch.

What do you have at the moment, dish like ?

What Diseq switch are you using ?

You connect both your dishes (you dont actually need two dishes but anyway) to the diseq switch. Connect the LNB from dish 1 to the switch and then the LNB from dish 2 to the switch and then you have a one cable feed back to your box - that cable goes into the one labelled output. Yeah ?

Then on the your Ferguson you go into Installation menu, the satellite name is displayed on top, just go down to Diseq 1 and choose the port you have the LNB connected to on your diseq switch. Then do the same for the other satellite.

I presume you arent taken the piss.

yeah i made port 1 and port 2 its hortbird gettin singnal when im going to search channel all failed no channels from hotbird and i was thinking diseqc is not good i change diseqc still same i will get mad i was using firmware 2.15B8
if i put straight to hotbird its no problem if i put straght to astra its no problem but couldnt setup diseqc

What percentage signal strength are you getting with hotbird connected without diseq?

What percentage signal strength are you getting with Atra connected without diseq?

If it is 70% plus on both, try other LNB inputs on diseq switch as one might be blown. Check cable connection coming back to box etc.

Re aerial for Saorview, where are you from ?

No. Do not touch that for a start. Its not even Saorview approved nevermind a rip off.

What are the basics ? What channels does he expect.

Does he have an aerial at the moment ? Does he have an existing satellite dish ?
