Hotel discounts

Just a quick question, I'm currently booking a hotel break for 4 couples in March. The hotel we wanted quoted us a price per couple which is the same as we can get directly from the website for one couple.

Is it too much to hope for a small discount per room considering it's a booking for 8 people. I'm not saying we expected one, but we're about to pay a 25% deposit and before doing so it crossed my mind to check.

EDIT: Before anyone says to just ask the hotel - I do intend to, but wanted to ensure it's not totally unfair or unexpected of me to do so.

Offer to paying in full on booking if they offer you a discount.
    Not unfair in any way.
For the most part they will take a slight hit on the room if there is the impression that money will be spent in other parts of the hotel eg. Bar, restaurant (other times leisure centres ect.)

Nothing wrong with asking! Worst they can do is refuse!

Always worth asking what their Corporate Rate is. It's often cheaper than what they offer to the general public, but probably wont include breakfast. Another tip is if they are located near a large company, just ask if they have a special rate for visitors to "Acme Industries" and you might be surprised.

For most hotel bookings made until Sunday, February 12th, 2012, with www.hotels.com there is a 10% discount by using the discount code HCJan10 at booking stage.

I sent an email a week ago confirming some details and asking if they could offer a discount considering the fact it was a group booking, I still haven't received a reply. They must not be very happy at being asked
