Just bought BMW 3 series, its due a service and im based in Claremorris, Co. Mayo. Im just wondering does anyone know the nearest BMW service dealer. Is it worth going through BMW or could i just get a reputable local mechanic? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

How old is the car, If it is more than 3 years old then I would use genuine BMW parts but with an independent mechanic doing the grunt work, do keep the service history just not with a bmw dealer.

BMW dealers are too expensive, e.g. like many others they charge for engine oil replacement by the litre, you can buy the same for much less at your local motor factor, I have a lot of personal experience with BMW servicing having a 5 series and a Mini in my house.

Depends on the car. BMW now offer value line servicing on the E46 which makes it very. Ompetitive to stay with a BMW dealer.

I would suggest you also get a price from the BMW dealer as well as an independent. They do not charge by the litre, they usually charge in or around €200 for modern 6 cylinder, but if you have an older 3 Series you might be able to avail of the "Value Line" pricing, example would be €136 for a 4 cylinder car.

To re-iterate I'm not saying you should go main dealer, I'm just saying get a quote when you're getting an independent garage quote. BTW I service my own car most of the time although this year I have been time constrained so have used mechanics (main dealer included).

Cheers for the help, its a 2008 320D business edition with 57000 miles. I just bought it, i was wondering would it be better in the long run as it currently has full BMWSH and when selling again is it worth sticking with a bmw dealer although im sure they will be more expensive.

I have a 2008 3 Series diesel too and once the BMW warranty ran out last August I got it serviced by a BMW indy. It still has a BMW service history just not all of it by a main dealer. I would have no problem buying one again that has been looked after by a BMW indy.
