Hi I was looking at trying to get someone to do the video of our wedding, I love vintage style using a super 8mm camera. Im having my wedding in Leinster area, Ive priced one guy but it was up in 2,200 for it.

This seems like a lot for a video. Anybody have any recommendations?

    Get the iPhone app! ;-)

But seriously, probably cost a fortune to get your actual wedding video done like this, but some of the software available now is brilliant and very accessible for amateurs, maybe get a conventional video made, and have a go at adding effects yourself after on the pc? That way if it doesn't turn out the way you imagine at least you'll have the original! If you're not interested in learning how to do it yourself I'm sure you could find a friend or family member who would take it on as a project

Best Day Productions do this type, I worked with Rodolphe during the summer and he showed me some of the 8mm footage and it was superb.

Best idea would be have some of the more personal parts of the wedding in 8mm and the others done conventionally?

I agree with doing it digitally and software can change it afterwards and you will always have the best quality original

For the parts that are done in 8mm film they have a really nice look that I would think be hard to be done digitally afterwards.

Thanks for your advise I priced Best Day Productions but they were 2250 which I thought was a lot for a video.

I was told that the effect could be recreated but I haven't seen any samples yet. If anyone has anything that has been done digitally could you post a link to it?

No problems, if you have a look on youtube for old 8mm look to video there are a load of videos showing you how to do it and what it looks like.

there's plugins for various video editing software that'll give the old cinema effect.
I have plugins for Adobe Premier that i've used in the past.

Ask your local (not so expensive but artistic) video guy (if you can fiind one) can they supply some or all of the footage with that effect.

    :)

If you're finding it difficult to get a video guy at a reasonable price then why not try film students/college societies? Students will usually work in teams of 2 or 3 on projects like this and would probably be pretty happy with €400 or €500 each for a day's filming and a bit of editing. There are loads of people out there who are really good and willing to work for quite little to get some experience. Just be sure to look around, ask for examples of their previous work or even get them to try a test shoot and edit to be sure they're up for the job.

It might save you a lot of money and you'll get something a little more creative and different than the local video guy who's been doing weddings for the last 15 years! :)

We were hoping to have something like this for our day too, but not if it's gOnna cost that much!

Is it possible to have pictures with the same effect? Could be cheaper than video?

Infact, I just checked out a few sites and you could buy a second hand 8mm camera for less than a hundred euro, then all you need is the film, a simple projector and someone to do the filming!!

Shooting your entire Wedding Video on Super-8 would be an expensive and logistical nightmare. Furthermore the audio capabilities of Super-8 cameras are very limited. Here are a few aspects that are worth baring in mind.

    1. The aforementioned audio limitations.
    2. Super-8 film cartridges have a running time of between 2 and 3 minutes depending on the frame rate you shoot at. These cartridges cost around €30 each and that does not include processing.
    3. All the footage would have to be digitally transferred so it could be edited. That's a further cost.

Having certain musical sequences on your video shot on Super-8, is of course possible, but still not cheap, when you consider that a digitally created cine effect applied in post production can have the same impact. Obviously the quality of the original HD footage will play a role and from experience, I've found that footage shot on the Canon 5D MK2 reacts well to a Super-8 effect. But in fairness to the untrained eye once the effect is added, the result is pleasing.

Sorry for being techie, but if anyone wants a Cine look to their entire wedding film, then you are best off going for a digital effect. Just ask your supplier what they can do for you.

Sorry to drag this post up again but Ive had no luck in finding someone who could do a good replica of super 8 plus a regular video for weddings, I would love a recommendation for Dublin/Wicklow area. Please PM me if you can! Cheers.
