Hello, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a solid fuel stove that would heat a minimum of 20 rads, as well as water for showers etc. We have a very old house with no insulation, and some windows are only single glazed. We are currently heating the house with two solid fuel stoves but need to change to just one.

Hi:) Are you looking for a cooking range with boiler or a solid fuel stove with boiler to replace the cooking range but in another room?

In either case we really need to know what size your radiators are and if doubles or singles?

This would give us a rough idea on boiler output required.

What is the difference between the two. What we have at present, is a range which is capable of cooking on but also heats about 14 rads.

The rads we have are approx 4ft long and 2ft high. 7 double rads and 7 single rads.

Hi With a range it has a cooking hotplate and has an oven.

A stove is just used for heating and doesn't have an oven but some use the top to cook on except on boiler stoves the top doesn't get as hot as a non boiler stove.

If you want to use it for cooking on and roasting then a solid fuel range would be best.

On your rad sizes and domestic hot water your looking for a 25kw boilered range or stove!! The most powerfull cooking range would be between 14 or 18kw boiler output so way undersized for your needs. You would be better to just install a large boiler stove. Have a look at the stratford TF90 solid fuel stove, this would heat the house on it's own.
