If there's anyone on here connected with this station, I would love to give you a big sloppy kiss by way of thanks for playing "Guardian Angel" by Nino Di Angelo.
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmwah!

Now if you can manage " Alibis" by Sergio Mendes.......:D

Didn't realise this was on the dial, I love it. The 80s was a golden age for pop music, before it was ruined by corporate manufactured **** in the 90s. Some nice selections as well, not just the 'best of the 80s' compilation stuff. I was driving home last night and Electronic's 'Getting Away With It' came on just before I got home. I drove past my house and kept driving around for another 5 minutes to hear the rest of it :)

Any news of a live internet stream yet please............

I was driving from Dublin to the midlands last night and i was delighted to be picking it up on AM as well as FM. I thought this was great that i would finally be able to pick it up on AM down in Offaly. So anyway when i got as far as Kinnegad it went out of range on FM and AM also :(

Listened to this for the 1st time there the other day. Really enjoyed it. Whats the craic, no DJs no Ads. Is someone running it as a labour of love type of thing or a they buliding towards a big launch?

They have been around a while at this stage. I get the impression it's a labor of love as without advertising it must cost money to run.

Music selection is very good this evening. Must be broadcasting around Lucan area. Very strong around Leixlip on my way back to Dublin this evening. Got patchy at m50 in parts but a worthwhile listen.

    Dear posters,
Stop teasing me with this - can't get it down here and can't move up to Dublin just because.....
You are all too cruel- delete this thread immediately.
    Sincerely,

It's not from Lucan or Leixlip but those areas would be in the service area of the transmitter.

If you have Shazam on your phone, it's very useful for finding the name of songs you don't know. Hadn't heard this one before...

Not heard anything, hopefully they get one at some stage. I heard an ad on it tonight, first I've heard on the station (for an 80's night in Break for the Border). I don't mind a few ads if it helps keep the station going, maybe it could help fund a streaming service too. I had a quick listen to absolute 80's, but didn't think it was nearly as good.

They just played my favourite song, of course I can play it any time, but it's cool hearing it on the radio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭thegreengoblin

In the last half hour I have heard gems such as:

Talk Talk - Life's what you make it

Tears for Fears - Head Over Heels

Duran Duran - My Own Way

    Aha - The Living Daylights

Where else would you hear music like that?! Admittedly you have to sit through a bit of rubbish to hear the good stuff but there's no pleasing everybody. I wonder is it run by the same people who ran Sun FM a few years back. Anyone remember it?

I don't think so. Sun FM was connected to Star Deejays, primarily Garv Rigby and Al Redmond. Last I heard, Garvin was PD with Spirit Radio - prior to that (from late 2004 on) he was heavily involved with the temporary radio scene. Al turned up at least once on one temporary licenced station - Premier FM. Another former jock with Sun FM, Gavin Hayes, was involved with a few temporary licence runs. That said, Sun FM did continue into a bit of 2005 without Garvin and, I assume, Al, so maybe....

As regards Real 80s, the beauty of the station is its clutter-free, inane chat-free nature, filled with plenty of '80s tunes that are rarely if ever played on regular radio stations. My only gripe, one which applies to all automated stations (certainly on analogue radio - normally oldies pirates!), is that we are never told who the artistes are. This is only a minor gripe, though.

why? what harm is it doing? you don't have to listen to it. not everyone wants to listen to todays crap plastic pop drivel.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I certainly don't, I love new music especially indie/electronica so listen to Phantom and BBC6, older stuff is great too, but been stuck in a past decade isn't healthy, music has to innovate and reinvent to stay fresh imo.

I could hear some techno -or whatever the name is - music on 88.1 FM and there was RDS info something like Klub FM but it wasn't regular transmission just a few times. Is the frequency taken already?
