just wondering if anyone has had the the opportunity to try out or compare the nightforce 5.5-22x50 or 56. is there any advantage to one over the other.

there is only 1oz in the difference in weight.

which one would you go for as a general use scope. ie. target practice/stalking/lamping fox etc.

i am hoping that someone has personal experience with these scopes

i currently have a zeiss 6-24x56 and it is excellent. would either of the scopes above compare

    cheers lads

I'd say the 56mm objective would have a slight edge, but not much. Either scope will do what you want

The bigger objective will always let more light through to the eye. Its nothing to do with tube size.

Viewing object is objective lens diameter divided by the zoom value

    50mm/10 zoom=5mm
    56mm/10 zoom=5.6mm

    Keep the Ziess ;)

    thanks clivej.

i will say it again i am not selling the ziess. i am just asking about the other 2 scopes as an option for my .308.

all the science aside i am looking for a someone that might have some experience with both scopes that could say that one was more suitable than the other for what i want.

My local never sold a 50mm to the best of my knowledge.

    Everyone wanted.56mm

you know how I feel about my NF on my .308 ;)

yes i do and i am only considering that model because i had a chance to look threw yours in different lights out in the field.

what i want to know is there any disadvantage to the smaller objective, it is slightly lighter and a little bit smaller which would be a good thing as i would like to use as low as possible mounts

The dealer said he used to stock both, but only the 56 would sell.

I have high mounts, but lower mounts would fit no problem.
You have an adjustable cheek piece so that would suit slightly higher mounts and Butler Creek scope caps

There are only couple of scopes I would prefer more than Zeiss FL. None of them is NF.

If you are still considering changing the Zeiss look at Zeiss Victory FL 6-24x72, Swaro Z6i 5-30x50, S&B PM II 5-25x56, Premier Heritage 5-25x56 and March 5-32x52 TI (last 3 are tactical scopes).

I think he's adding rather than changing.

    But those are Excellent scopes.

    Hello poulo.

My hunting buddy has one of them scopes 5.5-22 50. It's on a light barrel remington 700 .243 which he uses for fox and Deer. First off it weighs 2llbs which is a bit heavy on a light stalking rifle, by night the illumination is tricky to adjust either too bright or too light on the cross hairs his has the z 1000 christmas tree looking retical by and large he is happy with it but he never new it would weigh so much. Can't comment on the target side of things All the best.
