Anyone able to find me a pair on ebay, cheap enough. Also a rugby whistle, not one of those high pitched soccer ones. Or just the cheapest place to get them :) Thanks :)

Don't forget to say 'sorry' to the first guy whose fingers you make a mess of when wearing these shorts!

Pockets, fingers and rugby don't mix very well.

The fact that he's also looking for a rugby whistle might just indicate that he won't be playing in them

I prefer if 2nd rows wear shorts with pockets, i find them a bit easier to bind onto at scrum-time (i'm a no.8)

Just about every sports shop sells whistles for a few € but if you are going to referee then you need to get the Acme Thunderer as it's the IRB whistle of choice. Ask at the referee's course if you are doing it at the weekend or PM and I'll get you the contact details of their main supplier in Ireland. The likes of O'Neill's factory shop or JJB sports will have shorts for a few quid as well.

How does a rugby whistle differ from any other whistle?

Acme Thunderers are the IRB standard whistle for referees. They offer better tone of notes and are louder and harder wearing than a cheapo whistle and are incredibly hard wearing. It's just one of these things that when you ref games that you will find does the job for you :)

Huge difference CFH, i reffed last year with a std metal whistle, the ringing in my ears after the game would go on for hours, changed to the thunderer and ringing after the game is no more.

I didnt think there would be a diff but there you go.

That's mad. I always assumed a whistle was a whistle!

Pockets, fingers and rugby mix just fine.

Pockets, fingers and that pseudo-rugby rubbish people play during the summer, that's a completely different issue. Very dangerous game.

As well as missing all the best bits.
