Got out today for a nice walk with the dogs and my two shooting buddies. The dogs worked well and flushed a nice few birds but mostly hens.We put 4 mallard off one small pond but never got a shot.Next the dogs flushed a nice cock that i missed but one of the other lads got.We headed back in the direction of the jeep and put 2 more mallard off another pond but these 2 circled back at a good hight and two of us had a go at them.I dropped my one and was well happy with the shot.

One more thing the mallard had green wire as a leg tag and was just wondering does anyone know of a club using these as tags in the wicklow area?

had a similar day with my new 16 month old springer .was about 35mins in and he flushed 3 woodcock which i couldn get a shot at due to heavy cover and the buddy getting his mallet in the way:D,but all was not lost just before car the dog was showing signs of trailing a bird head down and tail doing 90,just had the safety off and he bust through a piece of cover like a bull dozer and i heard that flutter, up a cock broke and bang down the other side .the springer went over and picked it and straight back to hand and soft as you like .it wasnt the most fruitful days shooing ive had but definetly the most exciting, springers are the definiton of a mans best friend:D pics shortly at the womens and cant upload via bluetooth due to crappy laptop
