I am an Irish citizen by descent relocating to Ireland shorty. As I have never worked in Ireland I have never contributed to the system. Would I still be eligible for Job Seekers Allowance as I search for employment?

You won't satisfy the habitual residency rules - therefore you won't get anything for two years.

Thank you. At first glance it appears I would not be eligible but the DO does have some leeway in this?

As above the dept are sticking to the rules quiet rigidly in the present economic climate. You could find yourself in a very serious situation if relocate to Ireland and are refused social welfare.

Careful consideration should be given to moving to Ireland unless you have secured work in advance.
