My dad bought premium bonds forty years ago and have never EVER won anything. Two weeks ago one of his bonds won £25. Yesterday he rang me, a bond in my name has also won £25. Isnt it very strange that nothing happens for 40 years & then two wins in a fortnight?

There are research papers on it, this is one, for instance the misconceptions of chance section. There are other papers.

That's not the Nobel prize winning one (Economics). He won one though for Prospect Theory.
