HTC Sense 3 is an abomination.

How can they do so many things so well, and so poorly at the same time?

HTC have a habit of changing, rather than refining their Sense UI, and evidently, it’s not always for the better.

The latest incarnation of Sense features a completely new lockscreen, which pushes their counterintuitive ouija board "push ring” concept into further muddy water.

    Weather-lockscreen-sense-3.jpg

You push the ring up to unlock, or push icons onto the ring to go straight to them. It’s far too slow and novel for such an important aspect of the interface, but they went with it anyway.

Not content just to **** up the lockscreen (of all things), you now have to suffer a second of animation every time you unlock your screen, while your icons swirl into view in a futile attempt to impress and excite. On the contrary, it’s just more time consuming chaff between the user and the applications.

In other “improvements”, HTC have also gotten rid of the subtly shifting wallpaper feature (the wallpaper would move slightly in line with your screen page, a bit like parallax scrolling), one feature which I really liked. It may have been as pointless as the new pseudo-3d page transitions, but at least it was subtle (a word that seems to have been removed from the HTC dictionary)...

There are other little tweaks, most of which do nothing to improve how the phone works. It’s frustrating that HTC make these changes to the UI, and ruin the user experience and workflow in many aspects of the interface, without giving the option to at least stick with the old system. They need a shake up in their UI/UX department, pronto. HTC sense 3.12 is an abomination.

Be happy you had the option to upgrade, I'm waiting 4 months for my operator to send out the update which fixes some critical bugs I'm experiencing.

The lockscreen for me was the best part of the upgrade. Nice cool animation on my Sensation and quick access to the things i need without the need of unlocking the phone. There is an option to turn the icons and animations of if you dont like it....

Is there a way to customise which icons appear on the lockscreen? I just use the Gmail client so the standard mail client isn't useful for me. I also use Go SMS Pro so the inbuilt messaging client isn't that useful either.

With my Wildfire I could just flick upwards and it would be unlocked. With my Sensation XL I have to pay attention to make sure the ring reaches the middle of the screen. Then again, the screen is waaaay bigger. And since I'm complaining, I'd like if there was an option to have the nine-dot unlocking screen smaller and positioned at the lower half of the screen.

On the plus side, the camera UI has improved a lot. I'm not sure whether it's a Sense feature but the ability to fix album art from the music player app is very much appreciated.

Thankfully, I discovered MAGIC LOCKER, and GO LAUNCHER EX... and now my Android life is back to goodness.

    Still very miffed at HTC.

I really like this lockscreen. Using it a few months now. Some of the custom rings are deadly looking

I'm on a MIUI ROM on my Galaxy S II and I even use this lockscreen on it. It's definitely the most creative lock-screen out their, I like it. I don't really like the bare minimum widgetlocker has with its scroll across to access an app. This much more intuitive. But thank god I don't have to live with the rest of the HTC junk that takes up like half your RAM.
