    Hi lads,

Looking at the football bets today and was looking at handicap betting. The Stoke and Wigan game has an option of Handicap Draw - 1.0 and the Spurs v Swansea game is Handicap Draw + 1.0.

What exactly does this mean? If for talks sake in the case of the Spurs game if they win 2 - 1 and I have the draw backed on the handicap does this mean that I win the bet?

And how does the Stoke and Wigan draw handicap of - 1.0 work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

And in regards to the - 1.0 game, what way does that work? I'm slightly confused!

thats basically if theres a 1goal difference in the match between the sides you would win, if stoke won 2-1,3-2 or vice versa wigan won by them scorelines, the bet would be a winner

Right so it sounds to me there the same bets then? No? Or am I just completely misunderstanding and / or misreading that?

Thanks for the replies by the way. :)

That's incorrect, a -1 handicap draw is giving the away team a goal head start. If you bet on the handicap draw and the match finishes 2-1 to Wigan, then effectively your bet has finished 3-1 to Wigan so your bet would lose.

Why would anyone do a -1 draw, would they not just go for the other team to win? Or whatever way it works?

If you expect a team to win by a single goal it's better odds to back the handicap draw for that team -1, typically odds will be about 12/5. So better odds, that'd be why.

Doubt the odds on a, say, Man Utd match would be 12/5 for United to win by one goal.

Well I said typically but lets have a look, Bet365 odds for the match against Newcastle during the week, United away from home, ya'd expect it to be a close match. Odds for United to win by one goal 11/4.
