To failure and beyond

In gym earlier and failed on last rep of dumbell press.

Boyo beside me advises to ask for a spot, or in fact assistance, in future, to get the last rep or two out as ''that's where the growth is''.

What do you guys reckon on 'assisted reps' and training to failure in general?

Personally I'm not going to ask for spots/assistance every time I work out. Or even every second or third.

Is it really necessary for growth? Or is it more of an advanced technique, for those training a number of years?

A tool, no, and it depends. In response to the order asked!!

The "key" is solid nutrition and progressive overload.

Nice one. That's what I been working off so far.

I've seen some young 'uns getting assistance to the point where the spotter is sweating.
