I am aware of the 4 x 100 relay women trying to post times last year but were are way outside top 16 in rankings. are they going to still try and quailfy ??

4 x 400 women have a good squad and look a good bet to make London 2012.
who do you think should make the 6 member squad ?? Don't attack me or anyting but what about ciara mageean ?? could she not run a good 400m leg ??? or am i being stupid ?? jessie barr to improve her 400m flat PB and make the starting 4 ???
what's your thought's ??? outside chance at making the final in London ?

I see on the athletics Ireland website there is a notice for anyone interested in a 4 x 400 men relay to put names forward.
Anyone any idea if a squad is assembled ??? or going ahead. Gillick ?? Gregan ? any opinion's ?

A little birdie on the street tells me that the men's 4x400 are going to give it a shot and Gillick will be involved, but the women's 4x100 is a no go at this stage. Just from what I've been told, that's all I'm going on.

The women's 4x400 team will do well. I've been saying quietly that I think they could make the final in London. In Daegu they finished 12th, and if you remember the start there was a hige mix up where a fair bit of time was lost, and they were only about 1.3 seconds off the final, so they aren't that far off. Expect an Irish record in London next year. The competition for places in that team is fierce, and with Jessie Barr destined to get faster, none of the other girls will be secure of their places, which is the way we all want it to be. And they all seem to be really good friends aswell, which obviously helps come competition time, and team bonding and all that stuff. Their performance in Daegu was one of the highlights of the year from an Irish perspective IMO, given how difficult it is for a country like Ireland, with our small size, to come 12th in the world in a team event.

Womens 4x4 is where its at this season. Men may try but they may not have the depth and may struggle to post two fast times. They should give it a lash though.

Women will be competitive to get on squad of 6. They are getting good support, two week camp in Florida, racing at Penn relays, other races on continent etc.

Cuddihy is the only one certain for me. Rest from Bergin, Andrews-Heffernan, Carey, Barr, Mills, Furlong. Others may come into equation. Short sprinters coming up, some are talking of it already. Cuddihy's sister is making a comeback, could be a darkhorse. Likely 53 will be required to make squad alone.

Just on the Penn relays. I've heard that the dimensions of the track used for it doesnt comply with the IAAF standards, so any time they post in this race won't count for Olympic Qualification. Any truth to that?

Not that it will matter though. They just need a solid 3:30 at the Europeans and they will qualify I reckon. They have possibly already done enough as it is.
