    ...in Samoa

No Friday 30th December in Samoa
At midnight on Thursday December 29, Samoa's calendar will leap straight to Saturday December 31, as it redraws the dateline to move to the western side after more than a century on the east. The country will go from being the last place in the world to see sunset to one of the first to see the sunrise.

seems they are moving to the other side of the world :D:D:D

timezones and international datelines etc etc always confuse me terribly

that's why I bear Samoa no ill will on this one ...as long as they agree to have their sh1t sorted before I make it out there and provide me with a good "local time" announcement on the plane before it lands and I make my grand entrance.

I haven't done the maths, but could they not just skip 29th of February next instead?

Well, you won't be another year older.

It's just a practical arrangement to facilitate trade with Australia and New Zealand. Some of the local god-botherers say they won't accept the decision, but that's their prerogative. If those islands had remained in their original idyllic state, the people there would just go by the rising and setting sun and it's unlikely that they'd name their months after some imaginary gods and emperors in Rome and ancient Greece.
