    Hi

While looking at Mondeos i am also considering the purchase through a private sale of a Mondeo ST220. Apart from the obivous high road tax and insurance what else should i be concerned about?. Mileage is just over the 100 mark. Any advise would be great.

    Thank you

    CY

No advice, but you guys in Cyprus have the jammiest jobs ever! I know a guy doing it over there and by all accounts it's great :)

*Course, feel free to kill me if I'm wrong ...

Injectors are a big problem with these cars as are dual mass flywheels, if buying secondhand make sure both are done and have receipts to back it up. Other than that the usual checks apply.

Best have a look at the ST Forums there on STDRIVERS, the lads there will tell you the pitfalls.
I have the ST diesel so I can't offer any advice on the petrol. The ST TDCI has issues with the injectors and the EGR valve ( I replaced my own for 50 euro) and the alloys are cat bad for corrosion.! :)

The ST220 is petrol where as the ST155 is a diesel. The diesel is the one that gives trouble with flywheels and injectors. This engine has a chain so no need to worry about replacing a timing belt. The brakes and suspension are different in this too but on the standard Mondeo it was only the rear calipers that gave a wee bit of trouble. If this car dosen't have a service history don't buy it. They will give series bother with the engine, bearings shells, you could be looking at a new engine if it is giving woeful bother. I read a few things online about it but they are mostly good its just the ones that aren't looked after will give trouble.

Thank you to all for the information. Also looking at a '99 BMW 523i SE Touring 2.5. On inspection and test drive of the car it seems the central lock using both supplied keys isnt working, electric passenger and back windows not working and high beam blub not working. Are these expensive to get fix?. What else should i get checked with this model.

    Thanks

ST220 have 3.0 V6 petrol engine ! It's no problem with injectors and dual mass flywheels ! Don't make a mistake with ST. ST it's only stylisation body from ST220. ST have TDCi diesel engine.

ST220 and ST have totally different engine :D

I have old mondeo 2.5 V6 and it's great engine with lot of power.
