8x42, for Deer, 10x42 for general hunting applications
Kahles are a good brand for reasonable price

as long as they fit in your pocket.
I wear a chest harness with mine which keeps them tight to your chest until needed but somtimes they can get snagged in rough patches and briars
if you can carry your bino in your pocket and they have reasonable lenses, thats all you need ;)

Go with 8x42 since they are really good all-round binos.

Depending on the price I would do my list of favorites in this order:

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43
    Vortex Viper HD 8x42
    Kahles 8x42
    Zeiss Conquest 8x40
    Minox HG 8x43
    Nikon High Grade 8x42

in top league it gets down to personal preferences and you can choose between:

    Swarovski EL
    Zeiss Vicotry FL
    Leica Ultravid HD

Well i went in today with a gift reciept and a poor enough selection to choose from. I came out with a pair of tasco 10x30x50. probably not everyones choice but they have great magnification
and they are way clearer than the compact ones so till the kids either find them and break them or they get lost they will definately do me and then i can blow the budget on the ones posted above so thanks again for the info
