Sneezing and Blowing Nose Etiquette

I've been down with a cold of late, and yesterday my sister tore into me for sneezing and blowing my nose in public, basically what she was saying I should do mirrors the advice in these two articles:

    Blowing your nose etiquette

    http://m.voices.yahoo.com/proper-etiquette-blowing-nose-508255.html

    Sneezing etiquette

    http://etiquette-guide.com/sneezing-etiquette/

Do you find it offensive when someone with a cold blows their nose or sneezes, and do you think, like she suggests, they should leave the room when they do do?

If I left the room everytime I needed to sneeze or blow my nose I may as well sit in a room alone. I would always turn or walk away from people to do either,if possible.

I really hate people sneezing and blowing their nose but I guess they can't help it. I secretly resent them for a few moments though.

I blow my nose away from people that i'm near

if there is food i'll leave the table

If i have to sneeze i do it into the inside of my elbow as shown to be best on mythbusters.

    i hate hayfever

Blow your nose in to a tissue as often as you like IMO but please, please, do not just sit there sucking your runny snot back up your nose every 10 seconds

I caught a cold last week after breaking a rib so every time I feel a sneeze coming on I deafen everyone on the room with my roars.

Not sure what the proper etiquette is there but I think it would be best for all concerned if I didn't come to work.

As long as its not in my face I don't mind.

I wish everybody knew about these rules, you want to see and hear the animal that sits 2 desks down from me, has never been known to cover his mouth when he coughs. Not to mention blowing his nose for at least 20 minutes every morning, god knows what he has anchored up there.

The politest thing to do is to offer everyone around the use of your tissue after blowing your nose discreetly so as to not have anyone feel left out.

I notice eastern Europeans are very uptight about coughing, yawning, sneezing, snoring....and well, living in general.

I yawned once without covering my mouth and got a shrilling scorn from some polska chic. She thought she could change me.

oh you poor b*stard, i cracked a rib during hayfever season and as that finally healed i cracked another one. Its horrible. you fear that tickle that means a sneeze is coming you'd do anything to stop it but can't

If people are under the cosh of a flu (as i am myself since Christmas Eve) then it has to be done. If someone is offended, well, fcuk them You're not doing it deliberately.

I would normally leave the table, etc, but sometimes you can be caught unaware. Can't understand people lecturing about it though. It's part of the human condition.

sniffling as I read this thread, hate blowing my nose in public prefer to sniffle but if that doesn;t do the trick I'll leave the room to blow my nose.

Sneezing - I'm just a sneezy person, sneeze from looking at the pc screen too long, bright light, rooms gets too warm, room gets too cold, not enough sleep, perfume, pint number 4 (ie when I get tipsy) makes me sneeze. As a result of all this I just sneeze when I need to but always make sure to cover my mouth and aim away from people.

I am dosed with a cold since Christmas Eve and so are a lot of other people I know. There'd be a lot of empty rooms and people talking to themselves if everyone had to leave the room when they sneezed or had to blow their nose.

    There's worse things :

Like not being able to taste Christmas dinner

    or

If you're nose is totally blocked trying to eat said tasteless dinner and breathe at the same time. At the start I nearly fainted twice from lack of oxygen so it took me 3 hours to eat the dinner with tiny bites.... :(

    or

Sounding like Darth Vader or looking even worse with two Vicks inhalers shoved up your nostrils.....

    Sneezing while eating is disastrous.

    Sneezing while driving is worse!

I always leave the room to blow my nose but not to sneeze-just aim away and use hand santizer if available.

Loud and proud, both sneezing and blowing, the more bubbles the better.

Sneezing should be done into the crook of your elbow. I always forget to do this and use the not-letting-the-sneeze-out method.

Blowing your nose is a necessary task sometimes and unless you're doing it into someone's face, they should just get over it. What I don't like though is oul fellas who blow their noses and then do that thing where they wipe the end of their nose while snorting. I have no idea why they do it but it's not nice.

I have dodgy sinuses at the best of times.. the thought of leaving a room only to sneeze has never crossed my mind.

If your snot situation is really bad you should use a nasal rinse thingamajig to clean your nose out each morning.. they work wonders.

You know this happens naturally, regardless of whether you have a cold or not? It is pretty gross hearing the noise though.

Overly loud sneezers annoy me. It's like they're being excessively loud on purpose (although someone previously said sometimes it can't be controlled).

turn away from the people in the room when you sneeze especially if you have something in your system. blow your nose? go for it! exception being if someone there is eating ;)

I find catching the snot between thumb and index finger and flinging it wherever I fancy does it for me.
