I spotted an interesting bus on Ballyroan Rd today, an old 90's era Leyland-type (?) with red and white livery and UK reg, it also had something like Helms of Eastham written in giant lettering across its length - assumed it was some private company until I saw the front bearing the 15B sign.
Anyone know what's going on there?

Yes, this bus has been brought back to Dublin on a preservation order. Helms of Eastham is a bus based in Wales. They have bought other buses that were in Dublin Bus up until very recently.

There are photos of the said buses here below. The link starts with the bus you mentioned.

Sounds like you saw an ex Dublin Bus Olympian. A few held onto their old scrolls; maybe some bus gricer was having the crack; they are rather easy amused :)

    Great find!

If it was indeed RH 175 OP saw, it was apparently the last ever bus to be built under the famous Leyland badge :)

Maybe that's why it was brought back for preservation? :)

    Wow, that was quick.
Thanks Dublinman. After a day of musing about the bus, a night of gawking at the photos - lovely!

The bus was sold to the Transport Enthuaists Club (TEC). It was looking to be sold for only €2,000. A great advantge is that the veichle doesn't need a lot of work because it was recently out of service.

There is another development in regards to preserved dublin buses. I discovered that one very well known ex dublin bus was stored in a bus museum in Glasgow of all places. The museum I learned had actually closed down recently, for whatever reason I don't know why it closed down.

The bus was a double decker Bombardier bus (KD Type). It is in the Red and White Training bus Livery. It was spotted in Louth Commercials not too long ago. It came into service with CIE in 1987.

KD type buses entered service between 1981 and 1983. The bus in question, KD70, was withdrawn around 2000.

A question on this regarding registrations...

The bus is currently carrying a UK reg, its original Irish reg was 93-D-10175. If or when it's re-registered over here will it get that reg number back or will it get a different 93 reg? I think I've seen an ex RA class in Cork with a 95-C reg instead of the original 95-D one.

They should be able to renew the bus former registration plate without any problems. I can't understand the problems why most ex Dublin buses have their registrations changed, e.g, say in Cork. Here's one example here

I'd say that it is optional, given I've seen a 92 D reg open top DD bus in Kilkenny a few years ago doing summer work.

Here is another strange development. RV 569 currently still in service in Dublin Bus was parked outside Dun Laoghaire DART Station earlier today. I was coming outside the station couldn't believe my my eyes route what route it shown.

    And it showed? WHAT:eek:......7A...SALLYNOGGIN!

Is that mad, Probably the only 7A that I'd ever see in 2012.:D

Anyone with a pic should be great.
