Windows slow boot up

My Hp Touchsmart 610 running Windows 7 64-bit is so slow to boot up. It used to take 15 seconds to boot up now it takes over 5 minutes to boot.

It was running fine until last night. Now it freezes on the blue HP screen (won't let me press F8 or any of the other function keys displayed on screen) for a few minutes before continuing to boot up.

I wiped the machine clean last night with the HP Recovery Manager but that didn't help. Also tried disabling some of the startup items using msconfig.

Anyone know what might be the cause of the slow boot times?

I'm not saying it'll fix your problem but it might help troubleshoot it.

    Try hibernating as a workaround.

Could be a failing Hard Disk, classic signs of a failing one are boot up problems or slow boot times. Download Ultimate Boot cd, burn to a CD, boot off it and go to HDD->Diagnostics->Seatools for DOS and do an advanced scan

definitely sounds like a failing component. perhaps the HDD or the Mobo.

Have you installed any new software lately? Could be a driver issue....

When exactly did the issue arise and had anything new been installed?

Did this and set it to do the test which took over 6 hours and it passed the test apparently. I guess there's nothing left to do only to contact HP and see what they say... Thanks for your imput :)

Only 3 weeks old; was fine until the night before last. Did a clean install of the machine that night. So its not a software/driver problem. It looks like a component inside the computer is on the way out unfortunately :(

Download ImgBurn and use it to burn the ISO to a blank CD-R
