NCT warning light

    Hi,

Was wondering about fault light on for NCT test. It's a passenger airbag in the car which garages are quoting around 700 euro to fix. I never have passengers in my car and was wondering if having a passenger airbag was a requirement to pass the test .

    Thanks

An airbag light on will fail the nct regardless if its for a passenger or not. What car is it?

If you clear it does it come back straight away?

    +1 on the what car.

The airbag light on is a fail. It dosen't matter if no one sits in the front passenger seat. What kind of car is it, €700 is a lot of bucks.

It's a mini cooper 2006. Some basic research shows that sometimes it's a connector under the seat?

I'd hope it was that simple but the garage are saying 700 euro so they must think its more serious than that. It' s never been deployed or anything, just was staying on since around 6 months ago.

Most likely the sensor pad in the seat, you can get a bypass module for the pad and have the airbag reset.

Thanks, is that the sensor for detecting occupancy of the seat?

Do you know would that effect airbag deployment for driver (not passenger) if there was an accident.

If it dosen't sense someone sitting there it may not deploy.

I had this issue with my lanos. Turned out that the wire for the airbag ran under the car seat and adjusting the seat by diff drivers had pinched the cable and hence the warning light.

Cost €35 to fix , a mechanic just snipped the damaged section and spliced it back together. Simple fix and other garages had quoted hundreds to rewire the whole system.

    Worth checking out imo.

Yes it is the occupancy sensor or the connection under the seat for it. The air bag may not deploy because the system is disarmed. 700 euro is a lot of money but I would imagine they want to strip down the seat and replace the sensor. This system is similar to the 5 series BMW and riddled with problems. The pads can get damaged if someone kneels on the seat, damage the wiring by moving the seat back or hoovering the car.

The occupancy sensor is working - it stills beeps if someone sits there with no seatbelt. Even if it is working, could it still be a fault under the passenger seat?

Get the codes read and find out which sensor is flagging the fault, it could be the seat belt clasp or pre-tensioner which is causing the error
