Saorview mini aerial

    Hi!

My wifes dad just bought a saorview compatible tv. He has standard ntl but I suggested he should tune in the saorview channels too so he'd get hd rte 2. I bought a nifty little aerial online before to tune in the saorview channels but I can't remember where. It's got a magnetic base so it just attaches to the back of the telly. The aerial itself is only about 6 inches long. I think it was less than a tenner at the time. I thought I got it on eBay but I checked my account and there's no sign - I can't find any on sale there either. Tried amazon too but no luck. Anyone know where I could pick one up?

    Thanks,

    Ronan

Sounds like one I also got on ebay, try searching 'dvb-t antenna', saw them there quite recently

No such thing as Saorview or DVB-T mini aerial

There are outdoor aerials which 90% of locations need.

Cheap Indoor aerials that only really work for UHF
Cheap UHF Indoor Aerials that work for 10% of locations.
Expensive UHF Indoor aerials that are no better than the good cheap ones.

The actual signals are UHF and need EXACTLY the same aerial as Analogue UHF on a similar channel.

The short whip with magnetic base is no better than a coax cable with 6" (150mm) of the outer foil/braid folded back over the outer plastic, leaving a 6" (150mm) plastic "stick" with inner wire sticking out.

I've got a Saorview TV and am getting a signal (North Dublin via Three rock) using an indoor arial. But it is of very poor quality - very pixelated.

Would a better ariel be likely to maker much difference (if so, what should I look out for)? How about a signal booster - would it be likely to make any difference at all?

Signal boosters are to drive long cables, splitters or both. They are needed at top of a mast due to the length of cable.

You probably need an outdoor aerial. The best indoor aerials are not much better than worst and location in the room or a windowsill facing the mast has more effect.
