Quick question- If a car is imported from the UK first registered over there in say jan 2008 and its imported today is the new co2 system applicable?
I know for cars registered in early 08 in Ireland first registered one could choose but unsure if its not if its UK first registered and imported today. Thanks

As far as I know it's the CO2 system for everything imported with a first registration date of 1st January 2008 regardless of whether CC based is lower or not. I've looked online but can't find anything to 100% verify this, would make most sense though to be this way.

Afaik all cars imported, that were originally registered from 1st Jan 2008 go on the Co2 tax system.

Why? And and any more opinions on whether co2
    or not?
Im looking to bring in a 08 passat 2.0 tdi, hopefully some cheap, safe, comfortable motoring between depreciation, tax and fuel.

This is it. If its a 2008 register in the UK then its co2 here. The whole mid 08 thing was backdated to the year start if it worked out cheaper to the owner.
