    Hi all,

thinking of getting a android phone for my mother. A question however. Is there a system to download rte podcasts on to an android phone?

Also any suggestions of a suitable phone for email, web and podcasts would be great.

    Thanks.

I use Pocket Casts for podcasts

It's not free but it's only a couple of quid. There are others
Google Listen - I used to use it but found it to be buggy.
BeyondPod - Not free and perfectly good too but Pocket Casts has a nicer interface.
Dogcatcher - I've never used it.

I just had a look for RTE in Pocket Casts. It found Morning Ireland, Documentary, Nob Nation, Weekly Ryan etc. etc. There were about 20.

Adding a podcast to the app is as easy as clicking the Add button. Then it'll check every day for new episodes and download them automatically. You can set it to only download on WiFi. Some podcasts can be big. Especially if you go for the video versions.

As for a suitable phone. For the purposes you said above. any of them are fine.

I was thinking of one for my folks too. I decided against it because of the battery life. With most Android phones you have to charge them every one or two days. That would have annoyed my folks as they're coming from basic Nokia bricks.

I would add my recommendation for Pocket Casts, very easy to use and does it's job very well.
