Everyone i have met so far has said 2011 has been a bad year. WHAT THE?

I dissagree with it . Personally.

I passed my Leaving, Got into College
Turned 18, Got my Full licence just after my birthday.
Got no ice. Wouldnt mind the snow.
Made friends with enemies. Mended bridges
Made a change to peoples lives.
Started to get my life back on track after a steep downfall.
Got all my music sorted(took me 2years , its an achievement:pac:)

So i think 2011 was a grand all Year. But never the less Lets hope 2012 is Better

It was a fantastic year for me. . . until i came home from travelling Australia in October. Its gone downhill since then. No job, no money and no sign of anything decent. Be out of here the first chance i get.

Different titles and poll questions are very confusing!

Overall, quite a decent year. The time between May and September/October was terrible at times, I mean really terrible.

In summary, it's been better than 2010. There were large parts of 2010 I was sure I wouldn't live until the end of it.

Nothing happened for me. I turned 20? That's it. Passed exams eventually.
Crap year really. They're all crap though at present.

However, i put my first step on the path i want my life to take and that i'd planned for two years, finally doing something i want and ive made a ton of new friends

    so overall a good year

Terrible year - Bin Laden dead, Gadaffi dead and now just a few days ago Kim Jong-il kicks the bucket.

    End 2011 NOW!!!

Terrible year for me personally for reasons I won't get in to...nothing to do with recession or financial bollocks like that. I'll be glad to see the back of it.

Have to say that overall it was a great year.

I got engaged to a man I adore.
We went to Iceland together, had a brilliant holiday.
My fiance found full-time employment after a year and a half of unemployment.
Our dog recovered from a disease he was battling for a few months.

Although we have less money than we had last year, we're happier as people. Can't complain about 2011 really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭BunShopVoyeur

I'm unsure how to decide..........i spent 9 months of the year unemployed and barely able to feed myself, then got a job in October which pays a lot more than I've ever had before.....

I'll say crap year because of the hunger and stress.

Quite good for me. I finished a lot of my DIY projects - including an 8 person out door heated Jacuzzi - all of them well under the budget of getting "experts" in to do them and in some cases well under even my own planned budget. And none of them have electrocuted anyone yet - showing that even with average income one can live in luxury.

Baby born late 2010 doing well - she growing into a little nutter - but everything in 2011 went well with her. Legally cemented some of the issues with living with two girls. Kept my 2011 new years resolution of doing one very nice good deed a month for the entire year which was started by my taking random strangers stranded in Dublin airport by the snow over to my house for Christmas dinner on Xmas day 2010. Improved relations between all the parents and siblings of me and the two gfs. Added some letters after my name that were not there before curtesy of Cisco. And finally in all but 1 month of 2011 managed to throw a kick ass house party per month for the entire year.

I did get a paper cut while wrapping some childrens presents a couple of days before Christmas though. Thats kinda over shadowed the whole year. You know what they say.... "nothing worse than a paper cut". At least this justifies me selecting the wrong thing in the Poll above given the poll question is the mirror image of the thread title.

went from part time employment to full time. set up my own business that's taking in more than my full time job at the moment, and got my finances back on track. Apart from being more tired, i'm generally in a better place. Good year all round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 528 ✭✭✭Fozzydog3

pretty crap , stopped talking to a few friends ,did absolutely nothing ,signed on the dole , got fecked out of the RDF (again) , sent out about 200 cv's and got two interviews

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,282 ✭✭✭MyKeyG

Terrible year. Unemployment, anxiety disorder, had a seizure, was up in court, my willy fell off.

OK the last one didn't happen but it might as well have for all the action it got.

On the bright side I honestly can't see how 2012 could be any worse short of death, which in itself isn't the worlds worst prospect so I suppose whichever way you cut it things are looking up.

from own experience....it has been a year more stable than others, have gotten out more [in parts of the year],though however it has had its shtty parts.....
being attacked by a fellow resident in our minibus;defending self and being the stronger one due to a easy startle fight or flight reflex; nothing to do with police but lets just say due to the actions and bias of a manager and staff who am not known by-am still not recovered from it,will never forgive them and least of all self as am own worst critic.
our own manager had been on annual leave and he said to mum and dad it shoud never have been dealt with the way it was dealt with, had also ended up being banned from going out for many months on end due to having a high risk assessment on being out with others,it wasnt until one staff mentioned making the other person in question move seats that they all said 'oh yeah, why didnt we do that'.
-had a broken hand in the process, which was never bothered with for weeks after the incident because they had a bias towards the other person, the little finger had healed out of shape, there wasnt even a bruise on the other person.

the other major downer this year was lottie being in a 'hit and run', which woud not have happened if a neighbour living opposite our farm had not started to take her in as she was crossing the road when it happened.
    miss her badly.

2011 was good to me in general I think. New and first baby daughter was born in 2011, an amazing trip to India, my employer was bought over by another company, which meant a small amount of unexpected income from ESOP - every little helps.

Sure my negative equity went up by another 50-100k, but sure, I can't do anything about it, so I am going to ignore that..!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭deirdre_dub

Got a long-standing medical issue pretty much sorted out, though I had to go abroad to do it, and I had an utterly awful time there. Learned a thing or two about a friend, now an ex-friend. Had a bad conflict with another friend, though we've since made up big time. I was hit hard by the tragic death of a friend's brother. Had to move apartment - I'm now living in a lovely city centre apartment, on my own, but really enjoying it.

So it was a rough year, but I'm starting 2012 in a better place than I started 2011, mostly through having my medical issue pretty much sorted.

Ah I picked the wrong option cause the poll and thread titles are different!!

Meant to say it wasn't a good year.
Had it's ups and downs but overall it definitely sucked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 442 ✭✭doyle61

Best year and worst year of my life all rolled into one!!!!
One of my best friends died in janurary and my daughter was born in December. So 2011 was a fairly unusual year for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

I was almost to say yes however I got re-employed, promoted, went on business trips, 2 back to back nights of Deadmau5 concerts, went back to college after previously dropping out, made the honor roll for a 3.83/4 GPA and on new years eve had an amazing first date with a pretty damn awesome girl from work so no I can't say it was a bad year at all and considering how I started this year, this one's looking pretty amazing so far as well.

fuck sake can you learn to put the same question on the poll as the thread title, it's not fucking hard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,193 ✭✭✭Wompa1

    I said Yes.

Girlfriend cheated on me and broke my heart in February. It completely destroyed me. Took a few months to get over but I eventually did. Started a work related blog site that's received over 80,000 hits, have received multiple high paying job offers, travelled a lot for work to some cool places like Australia and Germany. Got a new 22 year old girlfriend who is a gorgeous former model and is caring and very affectionate. I've learned a lot about myself and the people in my life in the past year and have come full circle and am now glad for the experience of being in such a dark place, gave me a better sense of what's important to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭saa

Your thread title is was it bad and your poll is was it good.. stick to one way of phrasing this :pac:

    Good:

At the start I lost my bestfriend to another woman.
I started running workshops in a hospital
    Had a big exhibition
    Got my own flat
    Wasted my summer
    lost 25 lbs at least
Came back to finish college all guns blazing..
    ..ran out of steam
went to my first conference and it went really well
I made friends in college last year but I got close to them in 2011
I lost contact with a lot of my old friends down the country
I learned how to stand up for myself (and give out to people) :)
I started cherishing what I had
I was looking forward to Christmas and then bam became engaged,
Best friend finally decided to move to London.

    You win some lose some.

Personally, it wasn't great. I was unemployed all year, suffered a health scare and several fecky little things

It did have it's highlights. Notably an All Ireland SFC and qualifcation for Euro 2012 and my sister got married.

Thread title is confusing. I answered wrong.

But 2011 was a good year! Completed a six month work placement for college, lived in New York for the summer, met a great guy, not doing too bad in my final year of college so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭Zen65

Was 2011 a crap year for you

No, it was a good year.

(I responded to your poll incorrectly as the question was the opposite of the thread title)

My good and bad things for 2011 will be nothing compared to others but luckily I had a relatively basic year.

    Negatives:

    Lost a football final...again
    Broke up with Girlfriend
No career prospects for my college education
My car is just bollíxed and need to buy a new one

    Positives:

    Graduated from college
Got a job (completely unrelated to my degree but beggars can't be choosers)
Lost a decent amount of weight and got fit
Met a new girl late 2011

It was probably heading for a meh year till I met the cailín. Hopefully she'll wanna see me again in 2012:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 42 Gercakeage

    Good:
Passed the leavin and got into college (not sure about the course anymore tho! )
    Moved to Waterford
    Lost weight! :)
Went to Germany on holidays with a friend
    Made new friends in college

    Bad:
Fell out with some friends back home and just lost contact with others
Lot of crap happened during the year that I can't wait to leave behind me ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Started off badly, got significantly better in september, massive dip in November and december went well. Apart from November I would deem it a great year for myself from what was a very bleak time from January to September.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,975 ✭✭✭W.Shakes-Beer

    Bad: :(

-Sold a car that I kinda regret selling.

-Had THE most stressful semester of college ever before christmas!

    Good: :)

-Made it into 4th year of college and am on the home straight towards a degree!

-Had a well paid summer and a good holiday.

-Bonded with my already good friends even better and are now like family.

-Met an amazing girl about a month ago (through my great friends), both of us instantly clicking. Funnily enough my goal for 2011 was to meet someone and I did start to lose hope but as the saying goes, its when you least expect it. :)
