Audio - 5.1 CH HD Audio (VIA® VT1705 Audio Codec)
    Win 7

I have windows installed on drive D: and the on board sound card driver only wants to install to C:

Win 7 does not seem to let you change the system drive name for good reason maybe and I have tried to add the driver manually, any ideas apart from a clean install on C:?

    thanks

It is possible to change drive letters in win7 offline, but it requires some time.
Try to unpack driver package and install it from device manager (update drivers) providing path to unpacked folder.

It will be easier for me to help if you provide us with a link to a driver you are installing as well as device ID taken from device manager
