Cube has a bit better spec with a mix of 105/ultegra and better wheels. Both will work fine. Between the two I 'd choose the cube, it looks better IMO.

At this price level though I can't but recommend a carbon PlanetX which you can get through BTW from PlanetX Ireland in Athlone.

Giant Defy's always get great reviews: Defy2

I would say the cube myself. They look the business really. I have been looking at them my self till I decided to upgrade my machine :)

    Thanks all,

I was all set for the cube until I saw the Defy 2 review that Tenzor linked to; really positive. The only thing about the cube I don't like is the paint job; were they inspired by the make-up of a 40 year old woman in a singles nightclub?

the only ultegra bits on the cube seems to be the rear mech if i'm not missing something ?

the giant has 105 rear mech - what is the difference there in price of the two parts ? very very little i'd say ? then the giant has 105 brakes and the cube seems to have some cheaper type shimano brakes....

the giant certainly looks a lot nicer if thats your thing.

edit - sorry the giant doesn't have 105 brakes, i was looking at the levers.... oops.

The cube has better specs in brakes, chainset, cassette, chain, rear mech and wheels imo. So for that it would be no brainer. Looks better imo too.

The cube is a triple, while the giant is a compact. You can get the cube in a compact as well afaik.
