    6:59 onwards.

So Anne Doyle has retired from RTE, it was all a bit sudden, they could have given us a bit of forewarning to get used to the idea.

She'll be missed, not least by Inda Kenny who talks about his hard soft spot for Anne.

It won't be the same without her.

Those people on min wage will only tell us bad news.

Happy retirement to Anne, she was a good news reader.

    FYP

I've never understood why they feel the need to have "celebrity" news readers in RTE on massive massive salaries when they could get any competent and capable people to do it for a fraction of the price

How much was she paid? How long did she work there?
How is she a ''celebrity'' or is it because she has read the news for the last number of years that has made her a ''celebrity''

She announced many months ago that she was retiring. Hard to believe she's 60!

Pity she's retiring, would have preferred Tubridy and Joe Duffy to go. Even Pat Kenny has redeemed himself now at this stage with Frontline, the other two are just overpaid knobjockeys that are out of touch with the demographic they're supposed to entertain.

She would always say hi when I'd pass her on the street in Dublin. Saw her a while ago sitting in O'Donoghues on Merrion Row listening to the trad seisiún and as usual she'd pass a smile and a hi. That sort of down-to-earth attitude is sound.

I particularly appreciate that she can pronounce the letter 'h' correctly, which is more than can be said for Eileen Dunne or Brian Jennings - both fine newsreaders - who have imported this inappropriate "aitch" pronunciation from British tv and radio in the misguided belief that it is more correct than the established Hiberno-English 'haitch'.

Good riddance to Anne and her wishy washy smile and wishy washy vocal delivery. I always thought she was a poor newsreader. In fairness though, she comes across as more bubbly in real life

Suppose the odd time you come into AH you might find something interesting. This isn't one of them.

What if they resurrected Naked News and had her as chief newsreader. I'd watch that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,515 ✭✭✭Firefox11

Really? She looked a bit like that other Anne, the rather horsefaced Princess Royal.

Anne has aged very well, but she wasn't always particularly good looking.

I wonder if she's friends with Jean Byrne...

    Retire???
    People don't retire in RTE!
Just look at Gay Byrne & Mike Murphy.
Before you know it she'll have a spot on Lyric FM.
