Should be up and running in the next 5 mins. Getting text messages telling me that the great coordination plan to post online at 19.00 and have the website operating from 19.01 is a couple of minutes behind schedule

Definitely not. Lots of stock. We manually put up 40 prices and deals tonight. That's only 40. All the rest have a systems download overnight and I'm told that all will be complete by 08.30 tomorrow.

I've 4 kids and a wife to look to give some attention to now. Planning to be back online at 09.00 on Stephen's Day but better have a sneak check that the Sony is up tomorrow. No reason why it shouldn't be. Happy Christmas to everyone

You won't find any good pc for gaming in pc world tbh. The destkop he mentioned would be quite poor for most games. You need into look into custom builds for high performance for exactly the same price

    1 TB Toshiba Hard drive @ € 99.00 ( Stephen's Day ) € 129 thereafter http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/TOSHIBA-Store-Basics-Portbl-Hard-Drive-1TB/308552/326

While i think some of your deals are pretty good... the i5/6 gb for €499 for instance... in all fairness, this is a woeful price for a 1Tb hard drive be it portable or larger mains plug in and this is the main reason why i will be buying a WD 2TB for less money on amazon instead of heading to my local branch of pc world in Navan.

Im all for supporting local and have bought everything from my washing machine to my printer from ye in the past but as the below linky shows, i can get twice the storage (2TB instead of 1TB) for just £85.59/€102.29 (at the time of posting this) delivered to my door

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Elements-External-Desktop/dp/B003IPC21Y/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1324761371&sr=8-4

All the same though, good luck with the sale, just a pity on the prices of particular items in the sale.

    Oh, and happy Christmas!

    Not comparing like with like.

Portable vs a hard drive that needs a power adapter.

    Pointless comparison.

Which is better, The HP G6-1241sa or the HP G6-1220sa? Are there any better laptops for that price? Would be used for the odd bit of gaming and solidworks. Loads of movies/music.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 172 ✭✭padraig91

Shouldnt this sort of self promotion not be allowed in the bargain alerts section? Also the apple laptop is not a bargain it's that price all year around on the apple website... All that says is that u have been overcharging people for it before!

You presume correctly, screen will of course be included, as will the KB and mouse.

Specs here http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/PC-HP/308471/307 ( well they'll be close enough )

I do this once a year on bargain alerts. I post to to our own forum also. It's the one time of the year that we absolutely go for it in terms of providing bargains to people. And we've been members of this community for the last 18 months.

All done with the full knowledge of the boards team. I'd agree that companies shouldn't be flogging their wares endlessly on boards, it would just get stupid then, but I don't think that once a year is taking the mick.

So who is gonna take a punt on a Playbook? - I would be tempted, even though I expressed my views on it in another thread somewhere recently, but not sure I can convince myself.

Got to play with an iPad for good while today and they really are well put together... but waiting for No 3:D

Can't you see, its not that every business is using this forum for advertising, only those who pay for it(Seeing as boards does cost money to run, after all). Declan does not come on here posting deals every week, you may have a point if there was incessant advertising, but there is not

Hi Declan, before you go tend to the family (and you should), anything on apple TV & can the recent boards discount be applied to it also?

Look, I'm not new, I've been a user on boards.ie since 2006. I have changed usernames is all. I just don't think this is an appropriate place for a retailer to be placing an Advert. The charter clearly states this this is not allowed so are the rules real or just there to suit certain circumstances.

I sleep fine Johann. I just tend to make more of a stand these days when it comes to blatant advertising. The worls is littered with this stuff now. There's hardly room to breathe anymore. I think it's important to take a stand at some point.

Also, bear in mind, this particular retailer is one of the most expensive in the country, actually in Europe for things like consumables. Go in there and price a cable or cartridge, or anything like that and you'll be picking up your jaw from the floor.

This is our goddam forum, RETAILERS OUT !

Yes, I'm going to log off now and watch a movie with my young fella. Nothing happening on Apple TV, still € 119 for Sale but the Currys headline voucher ( which I think you're referring to ) will apply to that if you bang in an online order. I think it may be out of stock online but it should come back on over the course of the week.

Prices of cartidges or other consumables is an irrelevant topic to bring up.

I can see where you're coming from, but for goodness sake it's 1 day out of 365 days a year. Let it go, if it was a regular thing, then it'd be a problem, but it's not!

To be fair, the original post was put up yesterday.

Declan obviously has permission to do this. And, in any case, no one is forcing you to look at this thread. If everyone took your opinion, and ignored it, it wouldn't be long disappearing off the first page of the forum.

But there's a difference between shilling and helping people find a bargain. I don't think anyone could accuse Declan of shilling in or across any forums.

Discretion can be allowed in any situation, whether the Charter allows it or not. I guess we'll have to wait to see what the Mods say.

I just think it should be in the currys and pc world thread. And if they are good bargains it would be long before a boards member put it up. I'm mainly pissed because he is saying the MacBook is a bargain when it clearly is not so he is basically trying to trick people.

No he's not. The standard MacBook Pro has a 500GB, the one he posted has a 750GB.

MacBook pro is 100 euro cheaper in argos
And I think currys price promise says they will match the price and beat it by 10% so That's 990 for the MacBook pro now that is a bargain

I tend to agree with yenoah. It's should not be about whether PC World pay or not - that's why they should get their own space for which they do. And I welcome Declan putting any of these offers on the "talk to" forum.

But Bargain Alerts is supposed to be alerts from us the users about what we perceive to be a bargain and not from a retailer selling their wares.

Doesn't matter if it is only once a year. What if it starts to be twice a year. And then only 3 times a year....It brings into question the integrity of Bargain Alerts. And it changes it from a user forum to a part commercial forum.

And let's take the "but they pay Boards money for it" further - so, technically if every retailer in Ireland started paying Boards for it we would have Bargain Alerts inundated with retailer offers. No thanks.

Stick to the "talk to" forum retailers please where it is appreciated. That's my vote!

Edit: From the Bargain Alerts Charter:

    Basq wrote:

If the mods make any exception to this rule because of money it is the start of a slippery slope.

Can I just say firstly I am not a fan of PC, they shafted me with insurance a few years ago, But regarding this issue, He has stated that he is only allowed to post here once a year... so who cares.. and if its not a bargain, just like all the other posts here, people are free to say so..

So Just leave it as is as I am sure if there is an issue then the Mods or team will deal with it....
