Should my laptop be able to run this game?

Hi, I recently bought Star Wars: the old republic but unfortunately it doesn't run well at all on my laptop even on the lowest possible settings, but going by the minimum requirements I would think that it should run just fine, I'm thinking there must be something wrong with my laptop at this stage.

    My laptops specs are:

    Intel i5 2.3ghz m430
Ati mobility radeon HD 5400 1gb
    4gb ram
(graphics drivers are up to date)

    The games minimum requirements are
    2ghz dual core processor
    2gb ram
    256mb graphics card.

The framerates usually fluctuate between 15-25 out of fights and from 15 and below when fighting.

I'd appreciate any help as this is getting quite frustrating :o

Your processoer and graphics card are both mobile versions, and minimum requirements are never really what you should be aiming for. Still, it shoudl be terribly bad on those specs I wouldnt think.

Does the game run any better when you plug the laptop in? Laptops will often switch into a slower, power-saving mode when on battery power alone. I'm sure that there will be more helpful replies later!

It's always plugged in anyway, I doubt it would even boot up the game if it wasn't :o

Its likely your mobile GPU just isn't up to the task of running the game. Some things you could try (if havn't already) are updating the mobile GPU drivers from www.ati.com to the most recent, lowering the ingame settings/resolution etc to see if the framerates improve.
You could also try clicking on the battery (power) icon in the system tray and choosing full performance

The minimum requirements on the back of the game are for desktop PCs not laptops. you could try overclocking would help a bit, and down were the batttery is changing theirs 3 power settings make sure its on high performance.

I didn't think you could overclock laptops? So basically the laptop is just garbage then? 850 euro down the jacks  well guess it's time to get a budget gaming pc...

It's not garbage, it's just not designed to run games.
