Front tyres larger than rear tyres

Just discovered that one of my rear tyres , on my Hilux, is badly damaged and could blow if I drive even a short distance. My spare tyre is badly damaged also. I have new tyres ordered but won't be getting them till next week.

Thinking of putting two of my slightly smaller tyres on rear and leaving the larger good tyres on front. This would be a temporary measure until new tyres arrive.
Anyone know of any reason I should not do that.
    Advice appreciated.

So long as it is not in 4x4 mode you should be ok.

If you use in 4x4 the differences in the tyre size will cause wind up and put serious strain on your drivetrain

    Thanks for that.
Have changed tyres already and driven about 10 miles with no problem.
Don't plan on going off road till I get new tyres next week. Don't see how different tyre size would cause wind up though.

a hilux is part time 4wd and thus when you put it in 4wd mode both the front and rear axles are spinning at the same speed, the smaller tyres rotate faster and on a surface with a lot of grip the bigger tyres would be spinning slower than the small ones , or atleast trying to anyway, so you have both shafts spinning at the same rate, trying to spin at different rates causing stress on the front diff with the bigger wheels aswell as driveshafts and other parts of the 4wd system

Would the lsd not take care of it,the same way it does when turning and one side slows down?

The centre diff in a permanent 4x4 will but will be working overtime and wear quicker. A centre VCU (or LSD) would give out in very little time with a big difference in tyre sizes which is why they have to be kept matched on modern 4x4s.
