It depends what you like and want from it; and what you're willing to do to make the tablet do what you want.
It's kind of a double edged sword. I'll try explain in as few words as possible.

WebOS is on an unsure path, it's been open sourced but it could take a long time for HP to get their act together and start to develop it and update it significantly from what it is now.
So if you're happy with what it is now and not interested in updates then WebOS should be fine; again depending on what you want it for, web browsing and media consumption should be fine, but in terms of applications then it's way behind.

Since it's open source now, though I'm not sure if it has been opened up yet, but it will happen; there will be community development on it so you might start to see more happen with it soon.

On the other edge of the sword, because it's not an official Android device, all Android development on it will again be down to the community.
From what I can tell, since development began in July (I think), and now in December, CM7 is still in Alpha. It's still extremely impressive what they have done though, it's commendable.

So it's not fully functioning Android and development for it will always be quite slow. Then there's the issue that loads of applications probably won't work on it at all because developers won't bother to support it.

I think you're best hope is that cyanogenmod are working with the Touchpad while they are developing CM9 and then you can put that on your Touchpad. Release Candidates for that will probably start in late January, early February but I've no idea if it will be made for the Touchpad.

    So a TL;DR
If you just want web browsing and media consumption without any hassle, then maybe leave WebOS on there.
If you enjoy messing around with software and are well used to doing modifications on actual Android devices then you might enjoy putting CM7 on the Touchpad, but you're not going to get the full Android experience just yet and it won't be pretty.

I hope I've been able to shed some light on it, and it's only my thoughts on it; I could be wrong in some areas.

Sorry there's no definitive answer, but it's my two cents and hope it helps.

Have you ever used an android phone?

If so, when you use the touchpad for the first time, you will probably vomit.

Once you get urself in order you will immediately begin searching on how to get android on the touchpad.

Its dual boot so you can have both. I find WebOS better than the current Android Alpha as its smoother and not riddled with bugs. I have no doubt once CM get a decent non alpha, non Gingerbread ICS build out there that Android will be better.

Gingerbread on tablets is just Fugly.

What do most apps scale like?

I have used Android and IOS before.
I would be more inclined to to use my touch pad for applications than using it for media stuff like movies and pictures

Apps scale the same as they do on any android tablet, which is very well in the main. The GB Ui scales like **** though, as it's designed for a 4-5" phone screen.

CM7 Alpha 3.5 is pretty good to be fair. Running it at the moment and everything works fine bar the camera and microphone. It does require a bit of tweaking to get a nice tablet layout but it is possible. There are also other ROMS which have been tweaked more like this one.

But yeah as others have said if you just want the tablet for web/media Webos is fine for now but it does lack applications compared to Android. My touchpad runs GTA3, Asphalt6 HD and many other games very well..

I saw this and thought of you OP.
In a platonic way of course.

I'm waiting for the cm release of I
ics to install. Otherwise WebOS suits the normal tablet use.

    webOS is spelled as much.

I have the touchpad and I'm into modding things, but I've left webOS on the device. As with Apple products (not a fanboi) a device is at its best when the software is built with the hardware.

webOS works really well with the tablet and all android ports and just hacks, and quite ugly ones at that. Gingerbread is not designed for a tablet, and Honeycomb was a self-admitted quick fix by Google so they wouldn't lag behind Apple. ICS might be better but it's still a long way off, and even then it probably won't be as smooth as webOS.

And I proof read that post too, to make sure that there wouldn't be a silly mistake like that.
