I wouldnt bother. It will turn out a mess. There is more to painting a car that getting a can of spray. If the scratch is so deep that it cannot be improved by polishing etc, just painting over it is going to do little for it.

Alot of the damage/black marks might be able to be removed by a cutting polish depending on what the damage is like. Any pics?

Touch up paint is for use on small chips or hairline scratches. Anything more serious especially on a car of significant value needs to be done by a professional.

Having a go with a spray can will only make it worse and devalue the car.

i removed most of the black marks with cutting polish. i have a few minor chips that i believe can be done with a touch up paint pen/brush. along the edge of the quarter panel there is a maybe 15-20cm long white scratch. not deep but it is also 3-4mm thick. its not too serious so i figure if i painted it with a spray paint any dribbles would run into the gap between the door and quarter panel, therefore a non visible cosmetic problem. as i always say, out of sight out of mind :P. too dark for a picture at the moment but i will try and get one up tomorrow. i will also let ye know what the dealer says since im going at 2pm. thanks guys.

Are you going to a Toyota Dealer for tyres:eek::eek: Ring around local fitters after checking out Camskill or Eiretyres to see if they can match the prices.

The money you save can be used for a professional repair as just spraying it with a can of spray paint will ruin the panel and cost more to fix then getting it done correctly.

Either leave it as is or get it done properly, nothing worst when looking at cars (when you plan to sell it) as dodgy paint repairs. As the potential buyer then wonders what else has been scrimped on, this is for relatively expensive cars which the OP has.

    What Del said^^^
Let me get this straight......you're going to a main dealer (with a 06 car) for tyres and doing a DIY job with a spray can on a scrape to save money

Dude...if that's right you need to go over to a quiet corner and have a conversation with yourself...

    still working on the car.
seems to be coming out quite well. how long does it take touch up paint to cure properly. also, how long does it take a clear coat to dry. both brushed on from a touch up bottle. thanks
