Will I be forced to leave college?

Ok so I'm from Dub and I'm attending college in another county (west). This is my first year of college and I'm doing a level 7 course.

Back in August I applied for my grant to the VEC. I went in with my application and they personally went through it to make sure that everything was there - it was. They personally received the application from me.

I should be entitled to the full maintenance grant, which should include not having to pay registration fees.

Months go by and I have not received any word back about the status of my application, other than that 'they acknowledge receipt of the application'.

Sometime around October, I get a letter sent out from my college stating that they need proof that I'm getting the grant or I'll have to pay the 2000 euro registration. So I went to my VEC and asked them what the status of my application was - they said there's a huge backlog and there's nothing they could do.

Now it's late December and I've just received another letter from the college stating that if I do not provide proof or pay the 2000 euro by Jan 23rd 2012, I will be deregistered as a student and will not be allowed to attend the college anymore.

This is really stressful on me as I have just payed up 3200 euro in accommodation fees (this money was not easily gotten), and I also have to pay for food and travel each week - I have my parents to thank for that funding.

Now Co. Dub VEC keep telling me there's nothing they can do and I'll have to wait until my application comes around until they can asses it...

So my question is: Will I be forced to leave college in Jan 23rd if I cannot pay the 2000 euro registration fee?

    Thank you

Try and get a letter from them saying that due to a backlog of applications you are still waiting to be assessed. It might get the college off your back. Hopefully your form might be done before the end of January.

Does your college not have a student finance dept, that help students out when they are kind of ****ed for money, I'm sure this is a regular occurrence and extensions may be possible.
In my college the way this works is you can stay until the end of the year sit exams but until the cash goes through they wont release your results.
    Best of luck.
