Help, please -- American applying to pg program

Hello, I'm an American and recently graduated from a 4-year research university (University of Georgia) with a degree in international affairs. I'm interested in the MA Writing postgraduate program, but have a few questions.

Does anyone know how competitive pg programs (particularly an MA in Writing) are at NUI Galway? (I graduated with a 3.3 GPA). I know I will need to submit a writing sample, along with employment and personal information -- what else should I know as I put my application together? Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Not sure if the application process is different for international (non-EU) students, however the postgrad application centre website has the details of everything you could need.

Off the top of my head academic references would be a good start - ask some of your lecturers for them (2-3 should be enough, from those who knew you and where you did well).

Thank you, RN. I'm familiar with what's required for a complete application, but am curious what is required for a competitive one. Is a 3.3 American GPA competitive in a MA Writing program with a 3.0 minimum and room for only 15 (both eu and non-eu) students? Thanks again!

A 3.3 GPA is quite rare in NUIG so that's exceptional for any University in Ireland (not just NUIG). Place any relevant work experience at the forefront of your application and make sure you mention it more than once in your accompanying letter. The degree title obviously helps distinguish you (e.g. BSc Hons or BSc on its own) so be clear and unambiguous about the high reputation of your University.

Uh.. is it? Anything above 70% is a first class honours and is converted to a 4.0 on the US scale, as far as I know. I've been applying to American graduate programs to had to look a lot into this; I found this site which might be helpful for the OP.
