Deciding what diesel to buy

Currently driving an 04 Peugeot 307 1.4l diesel which I've had for about 2.5 years. Thinking of getting something different next year (maybe March or so) and just looking for opinions or suggestions. I do a fair few miles each week as I commute, so has to be something which won't make my wallet cry every week at the diesel pump.

Looking to spend €4k max, but preferably closer to €3k. Basically, I have 3 cars in mind:
03/04 Ford Focus 1.6/1.8l diesel - Always loved this model. But at the same time, is there any point in changing from the 307?
02-04 Hyundai Santa Fe 1.9/2.0l diesel - In a way this is my preferred option as I've loved these since I first saw them, and it's sort of a time where if I don't get one now, I probably never will. But at the same time, I'm guessing this would just drink diesel and tax would be huge.
04-06 Toyota Corolla hatchback 1.6/1.8l diesel - I like these, but if I did get one I'd only really be doing it because they're reliable, rather than it being a car that I want.

Just wondering what people's opinions are or if you have any other suggestions I'll definitely take a look.

Think the corolla hatchback only comes in 1.4 diesel. Maybe 2.0 as well but not many.

Rare enough car to find and from the prices I've seen wont fall within your budget

If the car you have at the moment isn't giving any trouble then I don't see any real advantage in changing to the cars you have mentioned. On your budget those cars will have alot of mileage on them and you could be spending more money sooner rather than later on replacing worn parts.

Have you ever driven a Santa fe diesel ? I used to like them and thought about buying one at one stage but only drove 20 yards when I said naw this is not for me , Sluggish and noisy ! I had a focus 1.8 02 tdci and it was a great car and like yourself I changed it , for the sake of change and regretted it afterwards but sure you can always go back :D:D Drive em all and see what you like best.:p
