CCTV/DVR in car - legal aspects advice !?

    Hello,

Been today involved in a car issue..some driver stopped the car in the front of mine, jumped to my car'door window and start shouting and fcuking on the road,in the middle of the traffic...Thanks to the car'door being automatically locked, otherwise i can be dead now, typing from offline / out of coverage !
Managed to get the back licence plate on the camera phone, after i stopped shaking...

    My Questions are:

Q1. if i install a proper CCTV / DVR system, mounted on the windscreen, facing 360 degrees coverage AND been involved in a simillar situation, can i use the recording as a legal proof document !?

Q2. Also,is there are legal aspects that i have to look after, taking in discution that i use it on a public road !?

Q3. found this one here ,with good video and date/time and GPS.I reckon is the best on the market...

Q4. have you realised that over past few years, the driving style, the drivers have been changed miserably !??
Looking around, sitting in traffic no matter what car they drive, all looks like is the end of the world or end of the road !??
No more good manners,no more let me go through, few fingers alright & ok ... but to stop the car and get to other driver like an animal...where is it going to stop !???

It's always been like that. Jumping into the drivers seat automatically lowers people's IQ by a fairly significant amount, I've found. They will go mad for no apparent reason.

Oh yeah, and could you have caused him to do that? Fogs on maybe? Incorrectly adjusted beams? In a hurry? Behaving oddly on the road? People generally don't try to attack people at random. No offense intended, I'm just asking if there was any possible reason for the attack.

What did you do/he think you did to make him get out like that?

I doubt he just selected a random car to start shouting at.

    Walkinstown Roundabout...
Coming from Crumlin side, smaller Y junction where you can't turn right, the chap came from Naas Rd.He had the left turning indicator on even after junction,i ass-u-me that he's turning left,on my right side of the road. Moved 2 meters on to main road, just to realise that he's going straight and not turning left...stopped my car in time, without obstructing his path, from my car through my windscreen asked what the fcuk is he doing...he stopped the car in the middle of the junction,in the front of my car, jumped to my car door and try opening, then shouted and whatever...don't remember, been under shock !
Traffic stopped for few minutes, looking at me and hoping that i'm still alive... :)

I've experienced other's drivers mistakes and fingers and horns and roundabouts...BUT ... I never jumped out of the car and tried to open his door in plain sunlight !!!

Now back to my legalities of camera in the car...spoke with someone and said that is illegal, but is ok if i have displayed a sticker "CCTV in the car" or "Recording Live " ! Make sense... ?

Ah, now it makes sense. In your OP you claimed to be pure as the driven snow and entirely without fault.

    Corect...
I never stated i was 'an angel' !! I said that i interogated the other driver...
    ...BUT...
You could be in this situation next time ! Or your wife...AND the car's door unlocked .

Will you take morality lessons or kick his arse !??

I reckon a single finger or horn or even better, recognised that was driving with indicator ON,indicating a left turn while actually drove straight, stop, make a polite sign and keep going !!!
Is it so hard,i'm i asking for too much .... ?

Anyway,i'm going to order one or two camers...i will keep you posted !

In general, you can take photos/videos if you are in a public place and a public road is a public place

I'm struggling to decipher your English... did you misjudge his indicators and drive out in front of him when he had the right of way ?

There's nothing wrong with having a dashboard webcam to record your driving.
But really, I think it's only fair that if you submit any recording to the Gardai that it be of your entire journey and not an edited version with only 30 seconds before and after an incident.

Indicators are signal of intent not gospel. Never take their display as a given.

What are you gonna do? Threaten him with your camera? I don't think he would have given a crap.

People make mistakes, people lose tempers, move on.

Never trust an indicator...one of the first rules you learn when learning to drive.

Most importantly, never trust an indicator on a roundabout!

There is nothing to stop you doing it, and there's no way I'd advertise it, either. Bus Eireann buses have CCTV......as do others. In a public place you don't need permission to use a camera.

S-Class Mercs have cameras avail as an option, so I see no difference.

    Protect yourself, first.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Fair play to you for seeing that he wasn't turning left and stopping in time. The indicators mightn't be gospel and he'd probably still have the right of way but nothing riles me more than incorrect use of indicators and I hope he got a lesson from it.
