Im currently driving a Skoda Fabia RS(1.4tsi) and i can get 45mpg on a run. lads in the UK are topping 50mpg. not bad for a 180bhp petrol.

I've a diesel '01 Audi a4 at present. Not sure what I average but could be around 52 mpg I think

Just trying to see is there any petrol car out there that might get up to the 50 mpg mark

driving a mitsubishi colt 1.1litre at the moment, , about half of my driving is on a main motorway and on m50, other half is around local towns (very hilly) and dublin city...

Have been measuring and recording my mpg a bit obsessively..

If sticking to 100kmph on m50 can average 50mpg... Although lately have been travelling at 120kmph (only on strech between bray and sandyford obviously)... going at this speed seems to reduce it to 46.3mpg or so,

and now with the winter etc its gone down a bit more to 45.9 and most recently 45.4mpg.

I'm doing around 300 miles a week. Probably better sticking with diesel but had been hoping petrol might be an option

Thats a good list.. although that list is cars released 2009 onwards which would be expensive to buy..the more recent petrol cars are more efficient..... but the older cars from that list are likely to be the most efficient petrol cars of their time as well.

Toyota Prius, never got less than 52mpg and best is 68mpg. Averaging 58 mpg over 13,000miles. They love town driving, not so great mpg on the motorway 48-50 at 130kmh It's an auto and has a decent sized boot and room for 4/5.

Kinda hard to beat. But u will get dogs abuse from guys on here if you get one.

I think the dogs abuse is from anyone who says their car is best. I get bollix'd about my Polo, and I'll defend it too. The problem with Prius' as well as any other car is that people thing they're best who drive it, yet the premium to drive it is huge so it gives some people an inflated ego. The MPG figures are fantastic for city driving it must be said.
