Bought a 2002 Polo 1.2 3 cylinder recently, all checked out at the time, genuine mileage of only 80k miles with a service history. Now it seems its burning oil at a serious rate, rang the dealer and they say it's normal for a Polo to burn a litre of oil or more for a thousand miles, this can't be right surely, can it? Great little car other than that but I think it's a lot to burn for such a small mileage, Anyone have any experiences?

do you have the manual? It might mention in it somewhere to check oil levels regularly as the engine could use a litre of oil per 1000km depending on driving conditions..

Maybe the car needs a good service with the correct spec oil etc..
