Irish v. Australian school systems - any experience?

We have recently moved from Oz and have a teen in 2nd yr and another in 5th yr. They are finding a huge difference in the schooling here - it's so exam oriented & doesn't seem to have changed much since we were at school here 20 yrs ago ...just wondering if there are any teachers with experience of both systems?
