I'd a stay away from short courses that aren't cheap. They're intended for managerial types to give them the gist of something so they can think they don't look like a complete thick ape between a bunch of engineers

€350 for the course, its advertised on donedeal.
I would ike to go on it but wouldn't pay that money for it personally.

Look up Hugh Piggott on google. He sells good plans for diy wind turbines. I'm looking into making one for myself, but I'm still in the research stage.
The hardest bit for me is figuring out how to use the power effectively.
I'm leaning towards a grid connection.

Yes - after 8 years living on batteries, I would agree. From an economic point of view it makes far better sense. But people who want self-sufficiency, or take a more apocalyptic world view would differ on that.

Hopefully the ESB will start paying a decent price for micro-generated electricity some day soon! In the meantime, I'm going to start work on something like a 4 metre diameter turbine, probably 48 volts, with a view to connecting it to the grid. I've never gone on a course, but the courses seem to all be based on the Hugh Piggot plans anyway. Plus there are enough videos of the process on youtube to figure it out I reckon.
