refinishing a table

    Hi All,
I've decided to try refinish a table - it is solid teak, I've done a LOT of sanding on the top to bring it back to its natural colour and I'm nearly there now. My plan is to sand and then paint the base but to leave the top it's natural wood. It's an indoor table but I'm not sure whether teak oil or varnish is the way to go for the top. Does either one look much better that the other or protect the wood better?
I'm totally new to this so keep it simple if you can or I'll get lost in the terminology :)

    thanks a mill...
