    Hi all

Just ripped my old family movies from VHS to DVD. What is the fastest software to rip it to a computer? Is AVI the best format?

    Thanks

Is it to make a backup?

No copy to watch on computer. and burn to DVD again.

I'm sure there are easier ways than mine, but an old family movie that you copies from VHS I assume you can back up as much as you want therefore this is legal.
I use " DVD decrypter " to copy from dvd to hard drive.
Assume the copied DVD is greater than the capacity of a standard DVD, i.e. 4.7 gb.
Use a program called " DVD shrink " to compress the film and create a "temp" folder or other name, shrink to this.
Burn to DVD with Nero, etc.
As I say, I do this with all home movies.
I'm sure there are easier ways but this works for me.

Why do you want a .avi file? If you created it from a VHS yourself then it's not encrypted (like a normal DVD would be). You can just copy the files to the computer using windows explorer.

How do I play the files then?

You'd use a program for playing back DVD's. You should be able to download one.
