I know a lad who took a shotgun blast to the face. Was standing next to his mate, the mate saw a bird and swung the shotty and fired

That is a level of recklessness that would be hard to forgive - I assume there was a civil court case and compensation paid

A lad here had that happen to him here a couple of years ago. Thankfully he was about 100 yards away, but he still got a nice peppering! Mind you, the fella that pulled the trigger got a broken jaw and the finest shiner I've ever seen! Makes me think about who I go shooting with now though!

what reflects off the back of a head...seems to be a unlikely story to me
eye shine from any animal can only be seen if you are standing close to the source of light they would have both come from the same direction even if one got ahead of the other presuming the third guy in the car was holding the lamp
remember accidents dont happen, they are caused

I always say that the best time to begin hunting is when you're tired of shooting.

Too many lads out there want to shoot rather than hunt.

    That's a bad combination.

I feel sorry for the lad and all of those involved. My prayers go out to all involved.

Think of safety first, then think about shooting

is it me or do people even look threw their scopes anymore:confused: why in gods name would you shoot something if you cant see it! And how in the hell do you shoot someone threw the head thinking its a deer:eek: and how in the hell do you shoot a bloody cow thinking its a fox!!!!! Seriously some bad judgement from a small percent of shooting folks world wide.......Im really considering going with the yanks and wearing florescent orange everywhere

I have a couple of opinions and none of them tend to make me friends on the subject of lamping and hi viz.

Firstly, I am an avid Lamper but too many lads regardless of guns peg at ranges that are silly and at night.

There is one lad I have heard boast that he routinely 300 yards away at night. Not getting into a row on it but I would always advocate calling in the animal as close as necessary to clearly id the shot.

I wear an american jacket I was given as a present and it has removable orange flashes and back panels that I always put on when doing a fox drive now the slagging is 90 but over the years I have seen fellas come to drives wearing NARGC hats and one guy routinely wears an orange vest.

Anyone who shoots at just a set of eyes should never ever ever be allowed a firearm.
