Help: Chassis very small for installing car battery

I'm helping a friend install a new battery in an Opel Astra and the chassis is very tight and tough to get the battery into (it was hard enough pulling the old one out). I've attached a picture to show the shape of this space and the size of the battery.

One of the problems is the plastic by the windscreen, it interferes yet doesn't look like it can be removed as it is connected to too much at the front of the car.

Any advice on how to squeeze the damn thing in would be great.

That plastic can be carefull pushed back after the bolts are removed, similar set up on the Corsa, the old one came out the new one will go in (with someone pulling the plastic back a bit for you after the bolts are removed), it only needs a few mm of movement.
