due to htc desire being stolen at the weekend, need a replacement phone this side of xmas.
general (no lag) performance and large, decent res as possible screen.
a good online community to support it would also be useful.

cant believe that second hand desires are still asking up to 300eu :(

anyone recommend a phone or know of a bargain.
wouldnt be put off by second hand, but they seem fairly dear anyway.

its not for me btw, i'm using an SGS2, the phone that is standing in for the desire is the huawei/vodafone smart, which is a bit rubbish.

is there any middle ground phone out there?

If you can get one a SE xperia Play.
Pullout gamepad may not be your thing tho.
Plus they might be harder to get at this stage.

If you are happy to tinker around (i.e. root, debrand, unlock etc.) with a phone once you get it, try and get your hands on an Orange Monte Carlo from the UK.

There seems to be a good online community out there for these.

Where did you see prices like that? On adverts.ie they're going for about your budget. The desire or galaxy s would be your best bet at your budget.
